Wednesday Hodgepodge 31/8/16

Wednesday's Hodgepodge is brought to us courtesy of Joyce at
Pop over there to see other posts and if you want to join in add the link to your Hodgepodge blog post to the Linky List at the end of Joyce's post and don’t forget to visit at least your neighbours on the list.
Have fun!

1.  Are there any men or women in blue on your family tree?
No although we have had one or two that worked in the support services for them.
2. Are you someone who suffers from the Sunday night blues? What helps you get over it?
Not anymore as I’m no longer working.

3. I read the colour blue is an appetite suppressant since there are very few naturally blue foods out there. How do you feel about blue cheese? Love it or blech? If you're a fan, what's something you like that's made with blue cheese?
I do not like blue cheese on its own but I have enjoyed sauces that have been made with blue cheese.
4. We can't head in to the Labor Day weekend without a related question, can we? Complete this thought: I work best when_there’s a deadline to be met.

5. 'Everything yields to diligence.' Antiphanes Your thoughts? (on this particular quote or on diligence in general)
Well just to be sure I checked out the definition of diligence: constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind.
and in that context everything should yield to diligence.  However, although I consider myself to be quite diligent I don’t always get the job done so I would have to disagree.
6. The National Park Service turned 100 years old on August 25th. Have you been to many of America's National Parks? If so share with us a favourite or two. Which National Park would you most like to visit before the next birthday rolls around?
Only been to the USA once and didn’t get to visit any National Parks although we did visit Central Park in New York.

7.  Bid farewell to August in seven words or less.
Thanks August for some great family time!
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Apologies for the lack of visits this last week.  The holiday home we were staying in had poor wifi and everything was just taking tooooo long.  Plus the pool was much more tempting in the lovely hot weather we were enjoying!

Wednesday Hodgepodge 24/8/16 - a day late!

Wednesday's Hodgepodge is brought to us courtesy of Joyce at

1. It's National Waffle Day (August 24th)...what decision are you currently 'waffling over'? (or share one you've recently 'waffled over')

I’ve been organising food for a family holiday and I have waffled and changed the shopping list soooo many times!
2. It's the middle of August, but I'm already seeing lots of autumn-related posts. Do you think we rush the seasons? If so, does that bother you? I saw (here) an end of summer bucket list that included-
make s'mores, read a new (or favourite) book in the park, eat something delicious and bad for you at a state fair, be a tourist for the day, have a pot luck picnic, book a last minute summer getaway, relax by or in the pool, take a hike to watch the sunset, have a day on the lake, try a new summer recipe

Which activities on the list might you squeeze in before summer officially comes to a close?
I think we do rush the seasons and as I get older that bothers me more.  Time goes quickly enough already.
I’m definitely relaxing by the pool this week.
3. Your favourite summertime 'art' found in nature?
Flowers
4. Stephen R. Covey is quoted as saying 'We judge ourselves by our intentions, and others by their actions.' Agree or no? Do you define yourself based on your intentions, your actions, or something else?
I can agree with that.  It’s easier to know what your own intentions are and I’m often guilty of not living up to my own expectations.  With others it tends to be their actions you are aware of.
5. Are you useful in a crisis? Elaborate.
I think I’m pretty useful in a crisis.  I don’t tend to panic and I’m quite a practical common sense sort of person.  I could probably do with being more confidence to assert myself in difficult situations but thankfully crisis situations don’t happen too often.
6. What's been your go-to dish this summer? Is it something you'll continue making as the seasons change?
Anything with salad! Probably not so much when the weather is colder.
7. Adult colouring books are a thing now. Have you jumped on the bandwagon? If not is this something you think you might enjoy?
I didn’t jump on the bandwagon but I was allowed to hitch a ride having been given a book and pencils.  It is relaxing but there are other things I enjoy more.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I’m a day late posting as we’re away with family this week as in extended family.  Some of us are here for the week, others will only manage a few days over the weekend but we’ll still be between 35-40 people most of the time!
