Each week Susanne reminds us to look back on the week and find the blessings/things we're grateful for. You can find out more here.
1) I missed last week because I was here:
Dunkerque!
We spent the weekend at Hubby's sister & brother in law's house with 2 of his other sisters, one with her husband, plus their 2 daughters, one partner and 3 children. One of the French nephews was also home for the weekend.
We had a lovely time and although we've been to visit them many times I've never made a point of visiting the memorial for the battle of Dunkerque during WW2.
Quite hard imagining my Dad being on that beach waiting to be rescued. But thankfully he was otherwise I wouldn't be here!
Still can't take a decent selfie though lol.The picture below is (L-R) Henri (French Nephew) Jean Marie (French BIL) Voldi (BIL) and Ellis who is Voldi's daughter Natalie's partner. Ellis is so helpful to Voldi and his wife Clare who are both blind. He and Voldi made their way to Dunkerque on Voldi's tandem. They cycled from Voldi's home to Stratford International Station and then got a train to Dover. They then made their way to the ferry port and crossed to Calais. Henri and Jean Marie met them there and guided them on to Dunkerque.
Anyway we had a lovely weekend, Anne Marie (Hubby's sister) is a great hostess.
Other good things this week:
2) I got my flu jab on Wednesday. My arm has been a bit tender but other than that it's all good. I definitely don't want to get flu!
3) It was Knit and Natter time on Wednesday evening and despite all the nattering I think we all made a little bit of progress on our WIPs. This is mine:
I wish I could still accomplish so much in a day as you did. Dunkerque must be so interesting to visit, particularly with your father having been there. The soup looks and sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh that soup does look delicious. Your time with family looks so lovely. I can't imagine what it must have been like waiting for rescue on that beach. It looks so calm and serene and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou have been to Dunkerque ! It's ages I haven't been there, for me La Panne or Oostdernkerke est closer. I never had a flu jab and never had the flu, but I know a lot of people who got the flu after the jab ! I should also get one against the Corona Frankenstein (what a name) as I had already 5 against the Covid, I am hesitating. I think the blanket you are busy to make will be beautiful, my MIL had made me one when Dario was little. Fortunately I don't have to do garden work, I just watch all the machines out of my window ! It's so big that they have to use machines !
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful beach. How meaningful to have those ties with it from your Dad having been there on during that time in history. Glad you had a fun time with family and the knitting group. This is a good time of year for soup. Have fun with the grandkids!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have a break away. It does sound like you had a great time. It must have been so strange being on the beach your dad was rescued from.
ReplyDeleteI got the text to get my flu jab so I have to arrange that.
Carrot and coriander is one of my favourite soups and I greeted my food shop delivery guy in my pj's. lol They were my smartest one's and it was rainy and windy out. x
You have had a wonderful week (and weekend). One of The Professor's goals is to visit Dunkerque. Maybe next time we travel to England we can pop over there. I didn't know that your father was on the beach there. What a wonderful story!
ReplyDeleteThat carrot and coriander soup sounds so delicious. I need to look up a recipe for it.
Congratulations to the new parents and grandparents!
I also cannot seem to take a decent selfie, being a grandparent is such a joy
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, I sure enjoyed reading your post today. I enjoyed the pictures. I have heard of that beach but spelled differently here. I am glad your dad survived too! I think your selfie came out fine. Your soup looks really good though I do not like coriander -cilantro. I hope you had fun with the grands. Have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, I’m just testing to see if I can post this comment with my contact info. The top ‘anonymous’ one was from me. I’m not sure why I’m defaulting to anonymous these days :( Does nothing for my sense of self-worth, lol!
ReplyDeleteOkay, you can delete these if you wish :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I enjoyed seeing your travels to Dunkerque. I enjoyed reading about your family too.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in the recipe for the soup, sounds delicious.
