L is for Lagercrantz (A-Z Challenge 2026) 14/4/26

#AtoZChallenge 2026 letter L
The A-Z home page can be found here.

My theme this year is authors that I've read. More about the books I've read than the authors themselves.

I'm an avid reader. I'm a member of 2 in person reading groups through my local library. I'm gradually working my way through an old BBC reading list of 100 books (I'm about half way through) and I'm taking part in the online 52 Book Club Challenge for the third time this year where the challenge is to read 52 books over the year based on 52 different prompts. You can also find me on Goodreads here.

The L authors I've read are:

  • Lagercrantz David
  • Lapena Shari
  • La Plante Lynda
  • Larsson Stieg
  • Le Carre John
  • Lee Harper
  • Leith Prue
  • Leon Donna
  • Lewis C S
  • Lewis Susan
  • Lindstrom Eric
  • Linskey Howard
  • Llewellyn Julia
  • Logan T M
  • Low Shari
  • Lupton Rosamund

Well a tie again for most read author on my L list between Lynda La Plant all featuring the female detective Anna Travis and Susan Hill who also writes crime fiction but many of her books that I've read focus on family situations and relationships.

TM Logan comes closely behind these 2 with 6 books which have all been good page turning thrillers.

There's one on there by Prue Leith who in my opinion should stick to cooking.

I'm trying to work my way through Narnia but so far I've only managed the first two.

Several Le CarrĂ© books and Stieg Larsson's Millennium series are all there including #4 which was written by David Lagercrantz.  I felt it blended well with the first 3 but it was a bit too futuristic for me with lots about the development of AI.  I am not a fan of AI, probably because I don't know enough about it.

Are you a fan of AI.  Do you use it when blogging and if so how?

  1. I don't use AI for any sort of writing. I organized my pantry with help from AI but I feel like it's a slippery slope in terms of writing. I want my words to be my words, and no they're not always polished but they are me. I think AI is going to be used for good and less than good. I do think it will produce some lazy thinkers which is my fear. I don't have an account and will keep it that way for now.

  2. Hi Wendy! That’s quite a list. Got any favourites there? I’ve heard of Linda LaPlante, but not yet read any of her books.
Here is my L post for today.

  3. I don't use AI for writing my blog, but have used it to help with facts or spelling. I will go when I post this comment and look for Lynda La Plante. Sounds like books I would enjoy. Still amazed at your lengthy lists of authors. Wow!

  4. I don't use AI for much of anything, especially writing. I'm probably old-fashioned in a "Get off my lawn" kind of way.

  5. Wow! You sure are an avid reader--and blogger! There are many writers on your L list whom I haven't heard of, but funnily enough a friend just recommended Donna Leon to me a few days ago (and I've just started watching the German Inspector Brunetti series). I will keep Lynda La PLante in mind as well--thank you.
And no, I haven't used AI for writing. For research, when I do Google searches the AI result comes out on top, so sometimes I do take a look at the sources it has identified, but in general would rather do my own digging, even if it takes a bit longer.
Nearly halfway through the challenge! I'm already running a couple of days behind!
    Cheers, -J

  6. I am most assuredly against AI in anything. It is stealing our intelligence in all ways.
You are an amazing reader! I was an avid reader but fell away from it when I needed reading glasses and cataract surgery. I didn't realize why I didn't like reading anymore, and stopped. Now I just haven't had the interest that I used to.

  7. AI has a place, or more accurately the number crunching capability of computers and image processing to do the calculations which are time consuming for humans. The medical imagery review, the sociological calculations of economics, all good. The FUN stuff of creating art or words where averaging makes things boring? Let me write, you can figure out if the headache is caused by one of thousand of neuron connections.
