Friday's Fave Five and A-Z update

Friday's Fave Five is hosted by Suzanne. Click here for full details.

I have so many things to be thankful for this week but the most important one being that my grandson, Nathan Leo, who arrived last Friday, 11 weeks early and weighing only 2lb 6oz (1100g) was born in the hospital with the best NICU unit (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) in the UK so he is receiving the best possible care.

All things considered he is doing well but it's been an emotional roller coaster this week.  My daughter was amazing at the delivery (I was there)  but it's so hard now for her and her wife as they cannot stay overnight at the hospital which means they have to come home every night and leave him behind.  It's still early days so we're trying to get into a routine and I'm staying with them to help out with all the mundane stuff they don't want to think about just now.  As you can imagine, it's exhausting for them.

I'm really thankful that I'm not working anymore and was able to just drop everything and be able to support them.  It's going to be a long haul.  Prayers are always appreciated.

As for the A-Z challenge (26 posts during April based on the letters of the Alphabet)  I had so many good intentions.  I had prepared almost half the posts in advance and scheduled them to post on the correct day and was planning on finishing the other posts as we went along.  Mainly because from 1st to 11th April hubby and I should have been cruising around the British Isles.  (Thank goodness the baby wasn't a day later or we would have been out at sea!)  I was hoping to catch up with posting links to the home site and answering comments once we were home with reliable internet service.

I think it's understandable that I've given up on that plan. I've not been posting my links on the home site as there's no way I could keep up with visiting other blogs and replying to comments given our current circumstances.

It will be a while before the baby can come home.  I'll post as and when I can. Have a good weekend all.

  4. Well first of all congratulations on your new grandson! I'm sure it's been a challenging situation and I will keep you and your family in my prayers, particularly his parents as it must be so difficult to be away from him right now. I'm glad he's doing well, and will look forward to seeing some pictures once he's home with you all. So thankful you were not out at sea and are able to be a help to your daughter. Take care, and so happy for you as your family grows. He has a beautiful name.

  5. Our little Timothy was in a similar situation - born 10 1/2 weeks early and in the NICU all that time until his due date. The pediatrician forewarned us that the way would be up and down rather than smooth and steady, and it was. Good news one day, bad news the next, and back and forth. But thankfully he shows no signs now of any problems - he had been seeing a cardiologist due to a little hole in his heart, and that closed up a few months ago, and was the last effect of prematureness. He'll be 3 soon. I hope the same for your grandson. So glad he came before you were out to sea, and glad you're able to help and support your daughter's family. I am praying for you all.

  6. Congratulations on the arrival of Nathan (my grandson's name!) but I know it is hard to watch one so small struggling for life. I will add my prayers to others' prayers for his progress and health and for strength for your daughter.

  7. Wendy, Nathan and his mommy, and all the rest of you have our prayers. I am so glad that you were able to be there for his birth and for your daughter afterwards.
How come she can't stay with her baby at night? I am so sorry. I know that must be horribly difficult for her.
    Have a blessed week.

    1. The focus is on space for incubators/cots for the babies. There is a unit for parents just about to take their babies home. They can stay overnight for a couple of nights being fully responsible for the baby but knowing the hospital safety net is there if needed.
