N is for Nonsense

This year I decided not to tie myself to a theme.  I wanted to do something that felt more like writing rather than composing posts.  I didn’t want it to be a story that had to be followed from start to finish so what I’ve ended up with are: “Conversations in my Head”.

I’ve been wondering.

Oh oh.  That’s not always a good thing Alice.

Why did you say your theme was conversations in my head?

Because that’s what I’m having.  Conversations in my head, with you.

Hmm that suggests I’m not real.  When of course I absolutely am.  I’ve been 

around for a long time you know.

Yes but Alice you’re not real real.

What do you mean?  I’m either real or unreal.  Not real real?  What does that mean?

Well you exist but only as a character.  You were created.  You know that Alice, we’ve discussed it before.  Many times.

But you talk to me as if I’m real.

Well yes but in my head.  I allow you to be there Alice.  You’re helpful.  Sometimes it’s good to hear a different point of view from your own.  To challenge yourself.  To debate something.  Look at a problem from another angle.  To give me ideas.  Or just pass the time!

But no one else knows I’m there?

Well….hopefully lots of people reading this blog know you’re there.  Lots of writers have muses who help them write.

But you said you weren’t a writer.  So why do you need a muse at all?  You’re just writing a load of nonsense most of the time.  Waffle in fact.

Well hopefully it’s not all nonsense and occasionally it might be found amusing and, although I hate to admit it, you have given me some good suggestions from time to time.  Sometimes I make a point of trying to think of a topic to write about and sometimes it just comes into my head.  That’s when it’s your doing Alice.

But if I’m only in your head how can I know that it’s cold outside or what things taste like or what’s going to happen tomorrow?

Umm well you probably experience things through me but you can’t predict the future Alice.  None of us know for certain exactly what will happen tomorrow. 

Stuff and nonsense.  Tomorrow we’re going to talk about obsessions!
