Wednesday's Hodgepodge is hosted by Joyce over at "From this side of the Pond". Pop over there to see who is playing and how to join in. If you do join in, remember to visit your neighbour on the Linky List. Have fun.
I've missed a couple of weeks thanks to moving but things are settling down now so here goes:
2. Slow as molasses, icing on the cake, that's the way the cookie crumbles, have your cake and eat it too, half-baked idea, that takes the cake...which phrase might be applied to something in your life in recent days? Explain.
That takes the cake I think. I've been trying to sort out changing our address with all the various utilities, banks etc. now we've moved. Dealing with the Government proved the hardest - somehow they have changed my date of birth on their records. I now have to get a copy of my birth certificate certified and sent to them!
3. Something that's 'easy as pie' for you to do?
Following on with the moving theme I'm going to say follow instructions - you know the ones that come with self-assembly furniture or appliances etc. I never jump straight in. I read the instructions and follow a plan. I know that some people find that quite hard lol.
4. Are you someone who likes to 'sugarcoat' news you think might not be well received, or are you more of a tell it like it is and let the chips fall where they may? Do you like to receive your news the same way you give it?
Well I once tried sugar coating the news that our dog had been euthanised by the vet by telling the kids he'd been put to sleep. My eldest son went away, thought about this, came back and said, "You said the vet put the dog to sleep? But the dog's dead right?" Of course I replied yes and his response? "So the vet killed him then." Now I tell it how it is and that's how I like to be told.
5. Something you did recently that made you feel like a 'smart cookie'?
I got our wifi and cable TV up and running and when we had trouble getting signal in some parts of the house I fixed that too.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Obviously there are big things to sort out when you move into a house, like doing all the notifications and getting the wifi sorted but then there are the little things.
We have a vanity unit in the shower room and the handles were quite worn and actually sharp to touch in places.
This could have gone under #5 too!
Such a headache dealing with the government on some issues (I know my identity was stolen in 2017 and man what a headache) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! learning how to fix things on your own.
Thanks I do try and give things a go if I can.
DeleteSigh/ugh about the birth records..my husbands was not born in a hospital and he actually has 3 dates listed. The Marine Corp told him to pick a date and wouldn't you know it, the government is having a hard time changing it? Some paperwork is listed as the 18th and 19th...such a hassle. I hope you get it figured out.
ReplyDeleteThat must be a nightmare for your husband!
DeleteAll the details involved with moving and updating addresses can be quite a headache. Good job finding and replacing the handles on your vanity! You make it sound and look as easy as pie :)
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't actually that difficult - I love the internet - sometimes! lol
DeleteGood job on the wifi and those vanity handles!! I smiled at your account of the dog and vet because I think many of us have had a similar experience. Our youngest son still talks of the vet killing his cat. :-(((
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy
DeleteMy daughters boyfriend just recently had to deal with the government changing his birth date in their records and it was a huge issue when he was buying a home. I had never heard of that happening before. It was such a headache.
ReplyDeleteI hope he got it sorted out ok.
DeleteThat is so crazy about your birthdate being changed! Hope you get it all straightened out soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm working on it!
DeleteYou fixed the WIFI? I am impressed
ReplyDeleteThanks - had to install a couple of boosters but it wasn't really that difficult.
DeleteSounds like you are the handy one to have around for assembling and fixing. Great job! Congratulations on being in your new place. Ugh about the government changing your birthdate. Hope that gets sorted soon. Always nice to get the wifi etc. working in a new place! Have a great rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellen
DeleteThat sounds like the government : ) My hubs just reminded his mom last week how she told the kids the dog had been taken to a farm, when in reality the dog had died. They dont' let her forget this. Kudos on the vanity handles and they look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joyce
DeleteGood for you being such a good fixer of problems and problem areas!! There is always something, and then something else. This was a fun Hodgepodge. We don't "do" dessert often unless we have company. Your yogurts sound good! I get fruit-on-the-bottom flavors that I love. Glad you are getting settled, Wendy! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Terri just another 20 or so boxes to do! lol
DeleteIt is hard to tell a child about "putting the family pet to sleep" Hope things work out with the paperwork you have to do now that you have moved.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan
DeleteI had to read aloud to my husband your account of how you told the children about the dog's death. Oh my. Yep, That's what the Vet did. (like so many others, we've been thru that, too).
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed with how you got the wifi and cable up and running, and did some other trouble-shooting as well.
My husband and I have moved a great deal due to job transfers (and more recently, figuring how where to retire), so I really appreciate what you've been through with your recent move. You have expressed yourself well!
Thank you. This is only the third move I've done but I don't want to be doing it again anytime soon lol
