Friday's Fave Five - 20/6/25

Friday again and time to look back on the blessings of the week and then join up here to share with others.  Susanne keeps us on track each week.

1)  It's the little things:

These managed to survive going through the washing machine.  Thankfully they stayed in the drum with the washing and didn't fall through into the filter.  It would have driven me mad trying to find them once I noticed they were missing!

Like this toy piece:

It's part of a sorting toy that has 20 different wooden shapes.  The grandkids were playing with it a week or so ago but when I tidied up this piece was missing.  It took a lot searching but it finally turned up.

2) We are enjoying a nice heatwave here in the UK - temperatures have been nearly 30℃ this week and tomorrow we're set to get to 32℃.  We're going to a wedding and I'd planned my outfit a few weeks ago but now I'm glad that I have an alternative dress to wear that hopefully will be a bit cooler than what I'd originally planned.  It's not as dressy but we're only attending the evening reception so I think it will be ok.  It's linen and red and cream so the red earrings above will work nicely!  My original choice was a lined dress which I think I would melt in!

3)  We had a nice meal out with my daughter and her family last Saturday (it was for Father's Day which was on Sunday).  We went to the Forest Hotel which is becoming a favourite of ours.  We like the atmosphere and they regularly change their menus.  We also got a free glass of prosecco as it's my birthday month.  One website it's been worth signing up to.

4) I'm grateful that we don't have to be too careful with money and that I can buy extras like bird food for the bird feeders.  The birds are very hungry right now and as fast as I refill the feeders they seem to be emptying them but it's nice to be able to sit and watch them making the most of the food.

5)  Knitting and reading time - Maisie's jumper is finished I'll post a picture once I've put the buttons on - plus I finished a couple of books.  I've also signed up for a new book club the library have set up and picked up our first read today - Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin.

Have a good weekend all.

  1. Hi Wendy. That book looks interesting. Your Father's Day dinner out with your daughter sounds very nice. We are having heat wave here in Utah too, but over 100 is just too hot for me. I would enjoy a nice cool down and some rain. Glad to hear that things are going well. Have a good weekend and enjoy the wedding! See you again soon!

  2. I've never heard of that book!
Wonderful time to celebrate Father's Day with your daughter. We are just about to get a heat wave here in eastern NY.....too HOT for me. I prefer temps that are 65-85 F. The upper 90s is just too darn hot and I have to lead a hike Tuesday!! YIKES.
I love lots of reading time and yay for finding the missing earrings and puzzle piece.
    Happy weekend

  3. That's amazing the earrings stayed in the washer and didn't get swept away! I just recently found a piece from a sorting toy that's been long gone, LOL.

Glad you had a nice meal out for Father's Day.

I'm thankful we can fill bird feeders , too. They probably need it more in the winter than the summer, but I like watching them from my office window.

  4. I find it very annoying when I misplace one earring and spend ages searching for it only to find it where I thought it was all along . Those are some damn hot days you are having

  5. How lucky to find the earrings in the washing machine.
I hope the wedding went well and it wasn't too hot.

  6. What a chance you had to find these little earrings ! I had the same adventure in the bathroom but the maid here found it ! We also had high temperature 33° fortunately on our terrace it's shade and a bit windy in the afternoon. With weddings its always difficult to choose the right dress, when we married in October I thought it would be cold and then we had 29 ° Fortunately my dress (it was the civil wedding) was sleeveless and I had a little Bolero whidh of course I didn't need !

  7. You had a good week-- the dinner for Father's Day sounds yummy.
I agree on filling the bird feeders. We enjoy watching the birds fly to and from and eating all the seeds so quickly.
Looking forward to seeing the photos of Maisy's jumper!
I hope this week is a bit cooler for you. We are melting here.

  9. When my sister suggested Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow for our book club last year I read the plot summary and thought no way. She encouraged me to read it and I absolutely loved it! I am not at all interested in gaming technology, but this book is so much more than that. I'm glad you found the earrings!

  10. How nice to celebrate Father's Day in a favorite restaurant! I love when a restaurant regularly changes some things too. We have one here that has their regular favorites menu but then also has a feature menu that has a theme and changes seasonally. That's some hot weather you are having. Glad you found your little things.
