Friday's Fave Five 1/12/23

Brrr it's been cold this week.  Frosty starts to the day but some lovely bright sunny days.  Someone suggested there had been snow this morning but I think there were about half a dozen snowflakes lol.

Anyway it's Friday so time to look back on the good things from the past week then head over to Susanne's site here to see who else is taking part.

1)  An outing with Hubby on Saturday - he was going to a nearby pub to watch a band play and meeting up with a few of the women that he walks with on Thursdays.  I decided on the spur of the moment to join him.  We got there early enough so that we could eat in the pub before the band started playing.  It was a fun evening but difficult to chat to his friends over the noise of the band.

2)  Tea and cheesecake on Sunday and a chance to see Grandsons Rory and Vinny.  My son and DIL had hosted friends on Saturday for Thanksgiving and had a lot of dessert leftover so they invited us over on Sunday to help with that.  She had made a pumpkin pie which is not a fave of mine but also a chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake which was very yummy.  But also very rich and not great for my preventing diabetes diet so I declined the offer of bringing more home with us lol.

3)  I haven't felt well the last few days - feels like my body is fighting a virus of some sort which is making me cough quite a bit and feel out of sorts.  I'm thankful that I'm retired without any responsibilities and have been able to just take it easy.

4)  Also thankful for a Hubby who can cook and who is willing to take on household chores when necessary.  He was proud of himself one day this week as he put a load of laundry through the washer.  He wasn't feeling quite so smug when I reminded him that laundry happens in 2 parts - the washing, then the drying.  (Fortunately I found the wet washing in the machine fairly soon after he'd washed it.)

5)  I'm also grateful that I've been able to get a few things sorted like ordering ink for our printer, food for the birdfeeders and a few Christmas items without leaving the comfort of the sofa.  I've also done quite a bit of reading and knitting.

I'm planning a lazy weekend in the hope that I can shake off this virus but hopefully with Hubby's help make a start on the Christmas decorating.

Have a good weekend all.

  2. Hi Wendy. Sorry you are a bit under the weather. So glad that you husband is helping out. I love the pies/cakes. I've never had peanut butter cheesecake but it sounds delicious! The night at the pub with friends listening to music sounds like fun. I hope you have a good weekend and feel better soon!

  3. That's like here, they announce a snow storm and all you get are two snowflakes. I am still surprised when a woman is proud of her husband because he helps in the household. Rick from the beginning on cooked (I couldn't) changed the baby etc and we shared everything. Today it's even "worse" the one who earns more stays home and takes care of household and kids, because there are not enough day cares (and grandmothers) my DIL's best friend is a doctor, so she works and he loves staying home.
That happens more and more. I think it's good. I recovered a bit, because yesterday I went to the hairdresser !! and this morning I unpacked the second bag. Good sign. Today I stay home because there will be crowds everywhere because the Flemish part of Belgium celebrates St Niklaas on the 6th and it's more celebrated then Christmas. But it starts to change. In the Holland too ! Toby has his birthday mid November, then St.Niklaas on the 6th and to finish Christmas on the 24th evening ! My poor wallet !

  7. Being retired is a good thing when you are not feeling well and the weather outside is frightful.
Hurray on getting all that shopping done online! That's mostly how we've been doing ours, too.
I love pumpkin pie, but ours was huge and I ate too much (hmmm, is there such a thing as too much pumpkin pie??) Good on you for being proactive about your health and refusing the extra pie.
I hope you feel better by now.

  8. I've just started with a cough, which seems to come every year about this time. Ugh. I'm also thankful for online shopping! That's pretty much how I've done all my Christmas gifting. Have a great week and hope you feel better soon!

  9. Sorry you aren't feeling well. There is so much stuff going around everywhere right now it's hard to avoid not getting down with something. I don't shop very often online but my sister loves not having to go out to get something she needs.

  10. I'm late commenting, so I hope you're feeling better by now. It is so nice to be able to take the time needed to head off or recover from a cold. I know what you mean about sweets. My husband is diabetic and I'm trying to keep sweets under control, so we try not to have much around. My d-i-l loves to bake, though, and will sometimes bring us leftovers from something she's made for some gathering. But her feelings aren't hurt is we say no or just take a little--she understands.

Glad you had a nice outing with your husband and got some ordering done at home. It's nice to have a husband who helps around the house.
