We've only moved just over 5 miles but we didn't know this area at all before moving here. Although of course we did have a good look around when looking for a house and there were a number of things we wanted on our check list.
One thing we wanted was to be near woodland or open space. Our former house looked out onto Wanstead Flats - open space that's part of Epping Forest.
Where we are now does not have the same outlook but we are just a 5 minute walk from the actual forest area around Highams Park Lake which connects to other parts of Epping Forest and this view is pretty good too.
It's quite nice just to do a circuit of the lake. The only slight problem during the winter months is that the ground can be quite wet and muddy. You definitely need good walking boots or wellies (Wellington boots/waterproof boots)
At just over 6000 acres, Epping Forest is the largest open space in London and is managed by the City of London Corporation. Within walking distance of our house is the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge that was built on the orders of Henry VIII in 1543.
It is nice to see other parts of the world. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour new home seems to be in a truly perfect location!! I remember how hard it was to find a new home you liked and am so happy this one came through for you! I am enjoying your A-Z!!
ReplyDeleteMy A to Z posts are also about a forest, spelled Forrest haha. I really like hearing about your area. In the US we hear so much negative about what's going on in London and the UK, it's nice to visit your peaceful life.
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely! I like your theme. I just could not get it together this year to participate and am missing it. Definitely helps keep me on track more than I can manage to do on my own. I can't remember if I replied to your message, but once we know our plans I'll see if maybe we can figure something out for a meet up. Have a nice week!
ReplyDeleteI like the best of both worlds. We have that in Cameron too, we are close to the city of Rice Lake. Yet, we are rural for country walks with Ernie.
ReplyDeleteCarla
That is a wonderful location. Near the central city, but also near nature-and history. You chose well. Thank you for visiting several of my A to Z posts.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great combination!
