It's Friday so time to look back on the week to find the good things and then share them HERE on Susanne's blog. Thanks for the weekly reminder Susanne.
1. Well firstly I'm thankful that we don't have winter weather like Susanne has - lots of snow and cold temperatures. It's been a very wet week here but temperatures have been okay. Quite chilly, but hey it's still winter and we have warm clothes, can afford to keep the heating on so we're ok.
2. YouTube! I posted earlier in the week about getting this kit at the yarn sale I went to last week.
This was beyond my crochet expertise - I've done lots of Granny Squares and lacy doilies but I've never done tapestry crochet. Thankfully I found a great tutorial on YouTube and I've made a start and it seems to be going ok so far.
3. Hubby had a follow up appointment this week for his eyes and he's been discharged from the hospital. They advised having an annual check up at his optician (who spotted the problem in the first instance) but no more visits to the hospital/clinic required.
4. Thankful that my daughter and her family are close to us so that when help is needed we can be there for them. Our DIL wasn't feeling great on Wednesday so I was able to collect Nathan and Ella from school and have them here until after they'd eaten. I'm also thankful that both my sons have good in-laws nearby too.
5. Fitting in my Just Jot it January challenge word of the day here which is "Altruism". I'm glad that I can help out at the Foodbank each week and that so many other volunteers do too. It's hard work sometime, particularly on the Thursday sessions - I get home and often just sit (might even catch a nap lol) but knowing we're helping so many people is very satisfying.
And a bonus mention for my library! One of the prompts for the reading challenge I'm doing is a book which uses "Deus ex Machina" which, for those of you like me had no clue is:
a plot device in which a seemingly unsolvable problem is abruptly solved by an unexpected and unlikely event.
Thankfully the challenge has a great guide on what the prompts mean and also a list of books which work for a particular prompt. Apparently this book works for Deus ex Machina
and it was shown as available at my library so I went and checked it out today. I can't start it yet as I have this one to finish first:

Those two books are on my "Want to read list" I enjoy most of Ruth Ware's books. I think there was just one that I didn't really care for.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful you're near your grandchildren and can help out. Hope your DiL feels better soon!
Have a nice weekend...we here in eastern New York are under a storm watch. I would LOVE some snow. We don't have hardly any at all. I want at least 6-8 inches so I can go snowshoe. :)
I hope you got your snow. My son got 8-10 inches at least
DeleteThe cow purse is so adorable! I wouldn’t have the patience, or the skill for it, but I can’t wait to see the finished product.. I learned something new today. Deux ex Machina. I had no idea!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea either - thankfully the challenge has a good guide on its website.
DeleteIt's crazy that in all European countries so many food banks are needed. Here it is the same, we also have restaurants which are called "resto of the heart" where people get a decent meal. There had never been so many since these institutions exists. We have the same weather as you, it's not winter and not spring it's something in the middle and quite wet. My castle is very warm, you can run around in a T shirt !
ReplyDeleteWow the castle's heating bill must be horrendous!
DeleteThe walls are very thick and the windows all double glazed and we have floor heating everywhere, that's nice when you go barefood. I wonder if they don't get a special price from the government. Anyway it doesn't bother me, I pay the same amount each month, if it's warm or cold ! But it is nice that when it's cold outside you can sit in the warmth.
DeleteI was so glad it was dry today after all the rain we've had over the past week.
ReplyDeleteThat is good news that your husband was discharged from the hospital and lovely you could help your DIL, I hope she is feeling better now.
Thanks Kim
DeleteThat cow bad looks so cute
ReplyDeleteOk I meant bag not bad, that was my bad
ReplyDeleteI had worked that out lol
DeleteThat cow bag is really cute! We're supposed to have a winter storm this weekend. We've just had a little sleet and snow so far, but that's supposed to carry on all weekend. I'm glad your husband's eyes have been improving and he can just follow up with his optician now. It is nice to be close enough to help your kids out. The food bank is such a valuable service.
ReplyDeleteHope the storm wasn't too bad for you.
DeleteYour bag is going to be so cute! I don't crochet so I can imagine how challenging it is to make the purse.
ReplyDeleteGood new on your husband's eyes!
Yes, it is wonderful to be living so close to our adult children. It is a blessing for all of us.
I learned deus ex machina when I was in college (English literature major). Sometimes, The Professor and I will be watching a crime show on TV, and we will yell, Deus ex machina!
Have a good weekend!
I'd never heard of deus ex machine before lol. It will be interesting to see if the books lives up to it.
