Friday's Fave Five - 7/7/23

How can it be Friday again?

Time to look back on the week and list the good things.  Susanne is the host for this and you can find her blog here.  These are the things I'm thankful for this week:

1)  Family time last Sunday - we had both our daughter and our younger son here with their families.  A bit hectic but the cousins do love to get together.  A challenge preparing a roast dinner while keeping the kids out of the kitchen lol.

2) 1:1 time with Rory on Monday - he school was closed for staff training so he came here.  He's really good at amusing himself but we also played a lot of games including Kerplunk and Junior Monopoly.

3)  We had some much needed rain but also quite a bit of sunshine this week.  Today has been really warm again but I've managed to get out every day for a walk, even if just a short one.

4)  A trip to nearby Epping - we got the bus and then the train and then took a slow walk up and down the High Road, exploring the various charity shops.  I found a "Guess Who" game which is another one I'm sure the grandkids will enjoy playing.

5)  Keeping up my motivation for improving my health.  As mentioned I've been out for a walk everyday and I'm still keeping up my exercises for my back and hips.  The pain is definitely less but still not gone completely.  I'm also drinking more water and trying to keep to healthy meals.  Not 100% - for example we should have had a HelloFresh delivery on Tuesday by 7pm.  By the time it arrived at 9.30 pm we'd opted for a Chinese takeaway!  But I have kept away from the chocolate and biscuits and I've also eaten more fruit.

Bonus - it was Knit and Natter on Wednesday evening - I'd missed the last two so it was good to catch up with everyone.

We have a fairly quiet weekend ahead although we are babysitting Nathan and Ella tomorrow evening.  Hopefully we'll get them to bed but at least it's Saturday so if they stay up late there's no rush to get up the next day!

Have a good weekend all.

  2. Lots of things to bring you joy!! I am such a slug and got stuck on 20 pounds off so have just spent the last two weeks eating things I shouldn't. I need to get back to low carb/keto and get the next 20 off!! Good you for walking every day!! Happy weekend! Enjoy the kiddos!

  4. Glad you had a great time with family. My kids enjoyed Guess Who when they were younger. When your grands are a little older, you might try Telestrations. You draw a picture, then the next person tries to guess what the picture is and writes it down, then the next person draws a picture based on what the previous person wrote, then the next person tries to guess that picture, and so on through however many people are playing. Then the first person shows the progression of pictures and guesses. It's so funny how the end picture comes out so differently from the beginning. The first person gets extra points if the last guess is same as the word that started it off.

My husband got a gym membership, and I am trying to decide whether to join. We used to go there before Covid. They have a nice, safe, level place to walk. But I don't really want to drive there and back several days a week. But I need to either do that or start walking around our cul-de-sac.

  5. Good luck with the healthy eating. I've begun that journey (again) and it is not easy. Sounds like a fun week.

  6. I am sitting reading your post after finishing a healthy lunch and after a morning walk along a river near our home. There were nine of us on the walk, along with the three dogs.
Yes, Athena (she) is going to be very large. She is a Berner, after all.
Love that you had such good times with all your grandchildren.
I looked up Epping on the map...always curious about the locations of towns and villages.
    Have a good weekend!

  7. I so understand about a healthier lifestyle. Since moving back to Florida where it is humid, we just don't feel like eating much; usually grab something light etc.(exception of yesterday when I made a pizza). Have a great day friend.

  9. I loved Kerplunk as a kid and Guess Who was a favorite to play with my own kids. Good for you for staying pretty much on track with your health goals.

  10. One of the biggest challenges of having a full house this past week is my tiny kitchen! I forget what it's like to try to prepare meals with little ones underfoot. I'm looking forward to getting back to healthier meals, too!

  11. Sounds like a nice week ! Drinking is very important, I realized that when suddenly I got dizzy and remembered that I had read somewhere that we have to drink 1 1/2 per day. Now I pay attention. Fortunately on my birthday I was like a 20 year old ! I had nothing ! And we walked through Europe took two hours, in 30°C ! I made it one hour and then sat in the shade with a bottle of water !

  12. My almost six year old grandson enjoys Guess Who. I taught him to play Sorry when he was at our house this past week and he loves that one! Yay for crazy cousin chaos and then hopefully a nap sometime after the dust settles.
