Friday's Fave Five (on Saturday!) 30/6/23

Susanne keeps us on our toes reminding us to look back each week and think about the good things in our lives.  You can find her blog here.

Here are mine for this week:

1)  Another birthday!  Always good to make it through another year, especially as I get older.  It was a very quiet day - I had my first Diabetic Prevention session on the day (Monday) so we didn't make any plans to eat out etc.  The session was from 4-6pm and it took about 45 minutes to get there on public transport so a 3 1/2 hour chunk out of my day.

But hopefully it will be worth it.  I've already lost a few pounds and I'm definitely eating better.  I'm also trying to be more active.

2)  The pain in my hips and back is definitely easier.  I'm still doing exercises everyday as prescribed by the physio.  Hopefully some weight loss will help with that as well.

3)  Lunch with a friend on Wednesday.  This was a former work colleague of mine who unfortunately was widowed early last year.  She wanted some help with probate paperwork so I was happy to do that and she insisted on providing lunch which was lovely.  We also got to do a good catch up on what our families are up to etc.

4)  Lovely flowers from my daughter and her family:

Plus a new container for future use!

5)  Cooler weather.  The heat a couple of weeks ago was really hard to cope with but this week has been much cooler.  Not as much sunshine though but at least I've not been panicking about watering the plants every day.  Although I have watered the tomato plants every day and most of them have flowers on them so hopefully we'll get some home grown tomatoes!

Have a good weekend all.  Happy 4th July to all my American friends.  We have my younger son and my daughter here for dinner tomorrow with their families.  Love getting them together.

  1. Hi Wendy. I love the flowers from your daughter. What a nice gift! So glad you are feeling better, eating better and losing a bit of weight. That always helps! I hope you have a good weekend and a lovely week. See you again soon!

  2. Those flowers are beautiful and I really like that reusable vase! And Happy Birthday to you!
It is surprising how much a diet change can affect your health. As Hippocrates stated, "Let food be thy medicine."
Hopefully, you will continue to have more agreeable weather with just enough rain so you don't have to water the garden. (can't wait to 'see' your tomatoes!)
Have a good weekend with your son and daughter and all the grands.

  3. Happy birthday a little late but heart-felt!! Yes, it is always good when another birthday comes around. Congrats on the weight loss! I lost 20 plus a few ounces and was stuck for nearly two weeks. I took the last week off and have just been eating whatever I want and a few things I've missed (pasta) doing low carb. Back to it after the 4th and I hope it will be a kick-start to get the next 20 off. Have a blessed week ahead, Wendy!

    1. Thanks Terri. Isn't it annoying how weight loss always seems to slow down after a good start lol

  4. Beautiful flowers, happy birthday ! It cooled down here too, and it's difficult to find the right clothes, it's cold in the morning then warmer then cold again ! Since I know that I don't have a cold all five minutes, but hay fever, I feel better. I have never ever been allergic in my life. Now that I will be 80 (what a number, I rather feel like 8) I am allergic to pollen. Exercises are always good. I had to go to a Physiotherapist for the back of my knee which hurt from time to time, she sent me home and told me that I don't need physio ! I think that's thanks to my Yoga gymnastic I do each morning for 10 min but since 2008 ! Meanwhile my knee is OK again.

    1. Thank you. Yes the weather is definitely changeable at the moment. Sorry about the hayfever but hopefully with the right medications it won't seem so bad.

  5. Hi, Wishing you a Happy Birthday!!! I love the flower bouquet. :-)

We are having a heatwave too. We hit 94 degrees yesterday. This evening we are getting storms, and I am in hopes they do not bring damaging wind.

  6. What happened with your back and hips? I didn't know you were suffering.
