Friday's Fave Five/Just Jot it January - 12/1/24

Combining two posts in one here today as it's getting late.

For more info on Friday's Fave Five (hosted by Susanne) go here.

For details of the JJJ prompt for today (hosted by Linda) go here.  Today's prompt is toast.

1)  Well I am grateful for people like Susanne and Linda (to mention but two) who host these memes/challenges etc that give bloggers like me a reason for posting a blog each day or week.  Sometimes it's hard to think of something to write but there is always something to fall back on and it involves a lot of commitment and time on their part to post regularly and visit the bloggers that take part.

2)  I'm also grateful to be warm and toasty despite the cold snap we're having.  We have the benefit of central heating so the house is warm.  I have warm clothing to wear when I go out and we still rely on hot water bottles to warm the bed at night!  I don't like being cold although Susanne would probably welcome my "cold" - compared to her temps at present our weather would seem balmy! (5 degrees C versus -30 degrees C 🧊🧊🧊🧊🧊)

3)  Good blood test results.  Still managing to stay below the pre-diabetic range and although I'm still trying to eat healthily it's nice not to be too worried about having the odd treat or being too rigid about food.  I've also managed to lose the pound or so that I put on over the Christmas period.

4)  Good TV to watch on these cold dark nights.  I've just got hooked on the new series of The Traitors - I watched a few episodes back to back earlier this week and now I'm up to date.  There's always such a good cliff hanger at the end of each episode.  I didn't watch the first series but I'm sure I'll be binge watching it all at some point.

5)  Another cygnet was rescued from our lake this week.  The parents are becoming increasingly aggressive towards them but the Swan Rescue team are on the case and now there are only 2 left to relocate.  I'm grateful to the people who are involved with the rescue team.

Have a good weekend all.

  2. I am glad you are staying warm and TOASTY during this cold snap. This coming week, we are heading in to a really really cold time, and I'm no looking forward to it. Thankfully we have central heating and lots and lots of blankets (and even a hot water bottle if we need it).
Congrats on the good blood work. That is truly something to be thankful for.
    Have a good week!

  3. Good job on watching your blood. I need to get back and track. I am already in the pre diabetes group. I really need to get back on the exercise schedule. There is hope. Hubby and I just finished The Crown. We have started Chosen and I want my hubby to watch Call the Midwife with me. Nice they we can be there for our grandkids. Stay warm!

  5. Talking about heat, I had to order summer 3 Nightgowns and also summer trousers so warm it is in the whole castle. I always have 25° C in my room and all thick pullovers remain in the wardrobe. I have to open one window a bit during night, because otherwise I would melt ! Fortunately I don't have to pay heating bills anymore ! Otherwise I am really feeling good here.

  6. Good to know you and your house are keeping toasty! It's going to be cold here, but we haven't had any snow yet. :)

  8. I actually like it cooler in the house alhtough we too have central heat and AC. I keep the thermostat set to 68 for most of the day (we do turn it up to 70 if the outdoor temps get below 25 and dave is working from home in the upstair office where he also has a little space heater). At night ours goes down to 63 after 11 pm in the winter months (usually Dec-April). I like Spring because we don't need heat OR ac typically although there are some chilly spring mornings. I'm hoping we get some snow!!

I don't know your story about the baby swans...sounds like they need to be rescued?? what happened?? I'm curious....

  9. I hope the swans are well and all get relocated to a spot that is safe for them.

  10. I sure wish I had central heating because it tends to heat overall more consistently. My small apartment has a heater in the living room and it does pretty well. I'm glad to hear that the relocation of the signets is progressing. Swans are such beautiful birds!
