Your prompt for JusJoJan January 8th, 2024 is “gratitude.” Use the word “gratitude” any way you’d like. Have fun! And for more info on the challenge and to see who else is taking part go here.
Regular visitors here will know that I usually take part with a gratitude style post on Fridays. It's good to take a breath each week and think about the things I'm grateful for.
Some weeks there have been things going on that make me grateful - e.g. an outing with Hubby or a meet up with friends. Sometimes it's a kind word received from someone or often it's spending time with the Grandkids. I'm grateful that I'm retired and have the time to do this.
If it's been a quiet week I remind myself of all the basic things that I have and, probably, take for granted - a roof over my head, food on the table etc. Or on days like today, when I'm still catching up with all the washing created from people staying over at Christmas, I'm grateful for modern appliances such as the washing machine and tumble dryer. I can also imagine my Mum shaking her head and tutting remembering when, to her, a twin tub washing machine was a modern appliance and labour saving! I think I was about 4 when that happened.
I'm also grateful today for good blood test results. Despite all the over indulging I did over the Christmas & New Year period I'm still no longer in the pre-diabetic range.
I'm trying not to indulge too much though (but I will be opening the chocolates I was given at Christmas now) and I still went for a walk today, despite the fact it was snowing! Not a lot, and it hasn't really settled but it was much colder than it has been.
I'm off now to tuck myself into bed with a book - grateful to whoever invented hot water bottles!
In case you were wondering the modern design was patented in 1903 by Croatian Slavoljub Eduard Penkala but "India Rubber" hot water bottles were in use in Britain as early as 1875. Much better than earlier methods for warming a bed!
I'm waffling! Goodnight.
Congrats on the good blood test results!! I agree with you on being grateful for modern appliances! We are sure spoiled when comparing life to our grandparents' times. We are due for some nasty weather in the next day or so. Winter is making itself known across many states...
ReplyDeleteHope it's not too cold for you - I was scraping ice of the car windows this morning!
DeleteYou have done well with your blood test. I need to have mine done this month but I will try and hang on for a few weeks to get rid of all the over indulgence of Xmas chocolate and cakes. Full of gratitude for the presents though.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes I was being very careful the few days prior to the test but I'm enjoying my chocolates now.
