Wednesday Hodgepodge 7/12/16

Wednesday's Hodgepodge is brought to us courtesy of Joyce at
Pop over there to see other posts and if you want to join in add the link to your Hodgepodge blog post to the Linky List at the end of Joyce's post and don’t forget to visit at least your neighbours on the list.
Have fun!

1. Let's talk holiday decorating. On a scale of 1-10 where do you fall? (1=Scrooge and 10= Clark Griswold). What's your favourite corner-room-table-space to decorate? Is it done?
I’m probably about a 6.  I like to have a tree and a few other bits and pieces but I certainly don’t go overboard.  My tree is up but we’re not quite finished yet.
2. Is there a nativity scene in your decorating somewhere? Post a picture or, if it's special to you in some way, tell us why. Or do both-it's Christmas!
I do have a nativity scene.  I bought this one last year as our old one was getting a bit tatty but there was no sentimentality attached to it.

3.  Do you live in a social neighbourhood? If so are you glad? If not do you wish you did?
There are things going on but our extended family is so large that we can make our own entertainment.
4.  As the saying goes, 'there's no time like the present'. How does that ring true in your life right now?
It’s a message I keep trying to embrace as I’m finding myself procrastinating far too much over Christmas and jobs that need doing.  See also #8.   I’m feeling “there’s not enough time” at the moment.
5. Do you dread Mondays? Why or why not?

No because I’m no longer working.
6.  Poinsettia, Christmas cactus, Amaryllis-which on the list is your favourite holiday plant? Are any of these on display in your home right now?
I don’t have any on display at the moment but I will probably get a Poinsettia ready for Christmas.
7. Share a favourite quote from a Christmas movie.
I am useless at remembering quotes from movies.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
My daughter is moving next Saturday and that is stressing me out a bit – I’m not sure they are going to be ready to go!  Hopefully everything will get moved out of their current flat.  But I think it’s going to be a close run thing.

SoCS 3/12/16 - Shockingly!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “sh.” Find a word that begins with the letters “sh” and base your post on it. Bonus points if you start your post with those letters. Enjoy!

If you want to join the fun link your post  HERE at this week’s prompt page either by pingback or posting your link in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!
Full rules are listed at the bottom of this post.
Thanks to Linda G. Hill for hosting.

Shockingly, at least to me, my hubby is wearing his hearing aids almost all the time.  Why is it shocking?  My hubby's hearing has been deteriorating over time.  We have endured the TV at loud levels, often having to repeat what we said far longer than necessary.  He kept insisting that, although he accepted his hearing wasn't great, it wasn't bad enough for hearing aids.

I finally managed to get him to have a hearing test and guess what?  They suggested not one, but two hearing aids.  Having procrastinated for so long over getting tested I didn't think he would agree to wearing them.  But he has. He has totalled embraced them.  He's really impressed at what a difference they make.

So it's quieter around here and sh, don't say I told you so!

Thanks for reading.  If you want join in  here are the rules:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
8. Have fun!

Friday's Fave Five - 2/12/16

http://susannesspace.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/fridays-fave-five-395.html

It's Friday so it's time to join in with Suzanne's Friday's Fave Five.
It's a place to come on Fridays and think back over your week and just post about 5 favourite things from your week. It can be anything that tickled your fancy over the week. Favourite quotes, posts, happenings, scriptures, recipes, pictures, great internet finds, etc., etc.

If you want to take part or visit other Fave Five posts, click on the picture above to go to host Suzanne's site and check out the linky list.

My five this week:

1.  Attending a concert of the choir my DIL sings with.  She had a solo to sing and it was beautiful.

2.  Reading at Mass - it's always a bit nerve-wracking but I do feel good about doing it.

3.  Finishing a crochet project I've been working on.

I made the bunting in the picture for myself last year.  I've now finished 3 to give to each of our kids for their homes.  Hopefully they will like it.

4.  Being able to share the news that my daughter is pregnant and we are going to be Grandparents.  It's been an anxious few weeks but she is now 12 weeks pregnant and feels ok about making the announcement.

5.  My advent calendar - bought by my Daughter & DIL as a thank you for helping them prepare for moving.  Lindt chocolate is my favourite.  Might have trouble waiting for Christmas Eve!
 Have a good weekend all!

What I'm craving today - 2/12/16

Five Minute Friday

You can find the prompt for this challenge here.

Here’s how it works:

Every Thursday, a one-word prompt will be announced on Kate's blog at 10pm EST.
The link-up is open for a full week, until the following Thursday evening.

To participate in Five Minute Friday, all you have to do is write for five minutes on the word of the week, post your words on your own blog, and link up the post on Kate's blog (via the InLinkz button at the bottom of the post). Be sure to add the actual permalink to your specific post, and not your blog’s homepage (e.g. http://katemotaung.com/five-minute-friday/ and not just katemotaung.com).

Just write.

Also, the most important rule is that you visit the blog of the person who linked up before you and leave some encouragement.  That’s the most fun of all, and the heart of this community.

The word this week is Crave

Well I was craving two things this morning, peace and quiet and chocolate.  Well ok I guess that is three things but you get my drift.

I love being in my house on my own.  I usually get plenty of time to do that but hubby has been home all week (he usually works Wednesday - Fridays) so my routine has been disrupted.  Even more so because he has had a cold.  Just a cold, not flu or anything more serious but it has kept him home.  And under my feet.

This morning however, thankfully he was feeling better, he had an early appointment at the audiology clinic and then he texted me to say he was going on a shopping trip!  Hallelujah.  Peace and quiet to myself.

And as for that other craving?  Well my daughter bought me an advent calendar as a thank you for the help I've been giving her with moving.  But not just any average advent calendar.  A Lindt chocolate advent calendar.  I'm in heaven.  Although I'm a bit worried that my cravings will mean it not lasting until Christmas!

Cravings satisfied - for now!
