Friday's Fave Five - 13/12/19

Hey it's Friday and I'm here!  Time to look back and reflect on the good things from the past week.

This meme is hosted by Susanne over at "Living to Tell the Story".  Pop over there to see who else is taking part.

Here are mine:

1.  The right to vote even if it didn't feel like I was making any difference and it was a dreadful night.  Of course now that the Conservatives have won the election, with a much larger majority than, I think, anyone thought they would, hopefully Brexit will get done.  Personally I voted to remain in the EU and I think the referendum was badly handly but, it has to be respected.   Only time wil tell if it will be a good thing in the long term.

2.  Wonderful nieces and nephews.  Nick's parents had 23 grandchildren and they have all grown into lovely young people.  This week one of them donated her stem cells which had been matched to someone who needs them.  She had signed up for the registry fairly recently but a match had already been found.  Hopefully the recipient's health will improve thanks to her.

3.  A night out with former work colleagues.  We usually do lunch taking it in turns to host but it was proving diffiult to find a day that worked for all of us so we opted to go out one evening instead.  It was good to catch up.

4.  A Christmas Concert.  Our DIL sings in a choir and they always do a carol concert in December.  We attended it last Sunday with our son, Rory, plus Nathan and his Mummies.

5.  Being able to look after Rory for an extra day this week.  He's had a rotten cold and cough and his parents took time off last week.  I was able to step in for an extra day but thankfully he's better now and back at nursery.

I'm also grateful for duvet days - the extra day with Rory and catching his cold left me feeling exhausted yesterday and today so I've taken it easy.  I'm grateful that I can do that.

  1. I followed your/ Great Britain's vote on the BBC all night long and was pleasantly surprised about the outcome. I'm not going to tell you what I think, but the people voted and get on with it now, just saying.

I so agree with your thought about the duvet, smiles. Have a beautiful weekend, friend.

  2. I agree, the right to vote is such a privilege, even though at times the choices aren't great. What a great thing to donate one's stem cells. Glad you had a fun night out with your work colleagues. The concert sounds fun! I'm glad Rory is doing better.

  3. Wow what a gift your relative gave someone. That is truly remarkable.

I could care less about Englands vote because I'm so disgusted with our American president and refuse tovwatch anything to do with politics right now. Other than the person I'd like to see be our next president. My husband though watched a bit of the BBC news last evening and see,ed pleased with the outcome. But yes, voting is a privilege we should not take for granted.

How funto attend a Xmas concert.

I hope you feel better soon!!

  4. I did vote eventhough I was not happy with either of the main candidates. However I am pleased that a large majority should now stop the stalemate situation and the bickering we have had to endure these last few years.

Prayers for all both our countries and for the world.
    Take Care!!
Enjoy this count down to Christmas.

  6. Christmas concerts are always a great way to celebrate the season! I can't comment on your political scene but am always interested in your opinions. Sorry you caught Rory's cold. I am fighting one myself but have not idea where it came from.

  7. I appreciate your kindness and attitude about your voting. Having friends who vote both ways, I try to understand their points of view. I'm impressed by your civility.
We love choral concerts especially at Christmastime! How fun to have family singing.
I hope you are feeling fine now after Rory so sweetly shared his cold with you.
    Happy Weekend!

  8. Such upheaval and drama in both our political systems. Being from the US I am watching the Impeachment of President Trump. I wish we really could remove him from office early but I fear that step will have to wait until the election - and even then there is a chance (slim I hope) that he would get another 4 years. It is still a mystery to me how a man so ill prepared and ill suited for such important leadership can capture the hearts and minds of some people.

  9. My two friends are down with a cold I think it is in the air, so far I escaped. My first reaction to the election result was that now we also have a Trump in Europe, they look like brothers ! As you say only time will tell. The only thing I personally wish and you probably too, that it doesn't change anything for our children and that they can work and study in the whole world and not only in their own country. When I think that Boris was in the European school here in Brussels !! I don't know what they have done to him maybe he was bullied ???

  10. Voting definitely is a great privilege (even when it doesn't always go the way we personally want). And like you said time will tell. That is an incredibly generous gift your niece is giving. Glad little Rory is starting to feel better. Hopefully you are on the mend quickly too!
