Wednesday Hodgepodge 28/9/16

Wednesday's Hodgepodge is brought to us courtesy of Joyce at
Pop over there to see other posts and if you want to join in add the link to your Hodgepodge blog post to the Linky List at the end of Joyce's post and don’t forget to visit at least your neighbours on the list.

Have fun!

1. Have you ever been to and/or lived near the desert? What did you think? Travel and Leisure lists the 'coolest' American desert towns as-
Palm Springs CA, Virgina City NE, Bend OR, Winslow AZ, Marfa TX, Grand Junction CO, Silver City NM, Moab UT, Taos NM, Yakima WA, Borrego Springs CA, Terlingua TX, and St. George UT, and Tubac AZ
Never have, never would (at least not through choice).  I live opposite a large open green space and wouldn’t want to swap that.
Have you been to any of these? Would you like to visit a desert town? Which on the list would you most like to see?
Haven’t been to any of them and unlikely to so I don’t have a must see from the list.
2. What's a plan or project you've deserted in the past year?
Home makeover.  When I first gave up work it was my intention to start making over the house.  Dealing with giving up my job and other issues has been a difficult journey but I do feel I’m getting back on track now.
3. Desert-dessert? Share two or three words you find yourself having to think twice about when it comes to spelling.
Don’t usually have too much trouble with spelling but things like practice and practise can trip me up.
4. High and dry, like watching paint dry, dry run, dry as dust, not a dry eye in the house...which phrase can you relate to currently? Explain.
Watching paint plaster dry.  Waiting for the plaster to dry so that we can start painting.  Then it’ll be watching paint dry!
5. How often do you frequent the dry cleaners? Starch or no starch?
I don’t often use the dry cleaners – I tend to check labels when I’m buying things although with all the weddings we’ve had I do have a few things that have to be cleaned.  I’ve never been asked if I want starch or no starch.  Maybe because we don’t take shirts there.  Only hubby’s suits.
6. What's a food or beverage you enjoy that's named for a place?
Mississippi Mud Pie is about all I can think of.
7. Do you need solitude?
Definitely.  I love having the house totally to myself if only for a few hours and I’m more than happy to go off for a walk on my own.  I’m more productive around the house when I’m on my own.  Adjusting to having hubby home an extra 2 days per week is proving a challenge.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
When hubby had a serious accident (11 years ago now) it made us very aware of how short life can be and for a while we were more focussed on living in the now.  Gradually though you slip back into old ways but we’ve been to two funerals this week which have reminded us again that life doesn’t always turn out the way you expect and you shouldn’t keep putting off the things you really want to do.

Thanks Joyce for another set of challenging questions.  Have a good week all.

  1. I love the sunsets in the desert, and also the red rocks it can look very wild and beautiful. I too enjoy to be alone at home, but it's difficult when you have a retired husband ! That gives me 3 afternoons per week !
Do you know why the linky on Joyce blog doesn,'t work ? there is only the htlm code.

  2. Mississippi Mud Pie...yum!

Your random thought is 100% true! Tomorrow isn't promised to anyone and we should spend as much time with our loved ones as we can.

  3. I agree that you shouldn't put off things; my health is failing and there is sooo... much on my bucket list. I wish that I had started sooner ticking things off. I give this advice to my Grandkids all the time. All the responses about food is making me very hungry; I love Mississippi (hard spelling word, lol) Mud Pie. Have a good week.
    Cheers!

  4. Any big change takes time to work our heads and hearts around. Change doesn't come easy to some of us. I hope that you'll be back on the path you want to be on very soon. Regarding your hubby being home more now, you'll get used to it eventually. It does require a change of how things are done, maybe, but it works out eventually.

My grandpa loved Mississippi Mud Pie. :)

I agree with your last statement. We have to get to a point of not putting things off. None of us can know what tomorrow holds. We know what we think will happen tomorrow, but that may not be at all what comes to pass. We need to make sure that we leave our stories readily accessible for out children. Like I tell mine, write down what you're doing each day. It may seem small and insignificant, but these "little things" are really the "BIG" things! It all matters.

    Have a blessed week!

  5. Life indeed is short. We should live each day like it was our last. Have a great week.

  6. I found that it can be very easy to do less when we have all the time in the world. Glad your getting back on track. Sorry about the funerals but it is an important time to realize how short life is and how we need to make the most of each day. Easier said than done!!

  8. Mississippi Mud Pie! I love that stuff :)
Yes, I agree, life is uncertain, and we shouldn't put things off. We must live each day as if it's our last.

  9. Mississippi Mud Pie is delicious! I've visited places in the desert but don't think I would ever want to live there. Although it definitely has its own beauty, I prefer being surrounded by green spaces.

  10. I feel the same way about deserts. Give me a old growth forest any day though.
    Have a good week.

  11. We've been dealing with an extended family member's recent accident and wow has it made me think about so many things. It's so important to have paperwork in order to make these hard decisions a bit easier to bear. I couldn't live in the desert year round. I love the changing seasons and am happy to see fall make an appearance in our part of the state today, with rain falling and cooler temps. I'm ready!
