#SoCS -4/2/17 - Hair

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “hair.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

I can remember back in my childhood, a case of hair today gone tomorrow.  I went from having quite long hair that was often styled in a ponytail, pigtails or plait, to having a totally cropped style.  It made me look very boyish so did wonders for my self esteem.  Particularly when I often had to wear boys shoes to accommodate the bunions on my feet.

To add insult to injury we suddenly changed to this foul smelling shampoo.  I couldn't fathom what was going on.

It wasn't until years later when it came up in conversation with my Mum that she admitted that I had come home from school with the dreaded signs of nits!  In her wisdom she felt I would have been mortified to know I'd got them so she just decided to take action.  Drastic action!

Personally I think I would have coped better if I'd known.  I might have put up enough of a protest to keep my hair.

  1. Ugh, that awful shampoo! We all had to use it a couple of times and it wasn't nice, but did the job. We didn't have to cut our hair, but sure wasn't fun. ;)

  2. Mary has always worn her hair short. Tried it long, and never got used to it.

    We call them cooties here...

    1. My daughter has always had her hair long and fortunately only picked up lice once. Boys both escaped.

  3. I never had lice, I didn't even know exactly what it was, so when my son's teacher took me apart to tell me that my son had lice, (it was a big secret in the 70th) I thought the poor boy had to be shaved and petrol put on his had, as they did to Grandma's times, I cried and cried and my husband told me that I was crazy, went to the pharmacy bought a shampoo (I didn't know that it exists) and after one hair wash everything was OK ! Today there is a circular letter for the parents announcing to pay attention to lice ! Your mother was a little awkward ! Understandable because it was a shame to have lice and meant that you are dirty, but in reality the lice prefer clean hair !!
