K is for Killer...A-Z Challenge 2017

My theme for the 2017 challenge is waffling on about random words!

That might not seem like a theme but if you read on you’ll discover it’s not quite as random as it sounds.  The words were generated using a word generator (https://randomwordgenerator.com/) and I opted for 4 words each day.  I might focus on one or try and incorporate them all into the post.

Choosing the words this way has given me a challenge and a common thread to my posts but it has also allowed me to be myself and just waffle!  It’s what I’m good at.  (Don’t worry, I’m aiming for around 500 words per post so hopefully you won’t get stuck here for too long 😉)

And the words for today are….

Killer

Kinship

Kneel

Knot

I think my favourite genre of books has to be crime thrillers so I read a lot of books where there is a killer involved.  I’ve read a lot of James Patterson, David Baldacci, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly, Karin Slaughter.  I also like the legal thrillers of John Grisham.  You can check out more of my book choices on my Goodreads site.

I try to read other genres and I’m a member of 2 online book groups as well as working my way through a BBC list of good reads.  Of course some books are more of a challenge than others.  I’m currently reading Wuthering Heights and it’s quite slow going.  My record to date though for reading a book must be for Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.  It took me over a month to read.

Some might wonder why I would tie myself in knots to finish reading a book that I’m not enjoying but I hate giving up on a challenge.  I’m the sort of person that loves solving puzzles and I’m your go to person for unravelling knotted wool, string etc.  I like to say I have patience and perseverance.  Some might say I’m stubborn.

As for kinship, I’m fortunate to have married into a large family.  My husband has 7 siblings.  Between them there are 23 children, most of which have partners and there is now a 3rd generation which will have 10 members when our grandson arrives in June.  Get togethers get a bit hectic.  But generally everyone gets on and looks out for one another.

This is my own family. (Taken last August at my eldest son’s wedding.)  All 3 of our children have now tied the knot as they say.

As a catholic I could spend a lot of time kneeling but I usually attend a Mass held at our local community centre.  Their large hall is set up for us each week but as there are no kneelers we just sit for the parts of the Mass where you would kneel in church.  (Although some people do prefer to kneel but my knees won’t put up with that.)

What’s your favourite genre of books?  What gets you tied up in knots?

  1. I too love untangling yarn, and I do love to kneel in church - it helps me stay connected more than sitting.
What ties me up in knots? Traffic, unkind people, politics and the price of gas.

    1. I try not to get tied up in knots about things I can't change or don't really affect me.

  2. My favorite genre is mystery books and, I have to tell you, I start at the ending and read forward. I prefer to know the ending and then figure out why or how it happened, silly I know.

    Have a beautiful weekend, Wendy.

  3. I love a good thriller. I'm interested in that BBC list of books. Must make a note to look it up.

  4. I don't usually go to Goodreads, but Jonathan Kellerman and Robert Crais are good, too.

My knees are so bad, I end up sitting through most of Mass, anyway. Our church was designed without kneelers, and we always used to stand through the Eucharistic prayer until someone in the Chancery raised a fuss, so we kneel during the consecration part. Half of us sit through it, anyway. A lot of bad knees, as it turns out.
