P is for Publication... A-Z Challenge 2017

My theme for the 2017 challenge is waffling on about random words!

That might not seem like a theme but if you read on you’ll discover it’s not quite as random as it sounds.  The words were generated using a word generator (https://randomwordgenerator.com/) and I opted for 4 words each day.  I might focus on one or try and incorporate them all into the post.

Choosing the words this way has given me a challenge and a common thread to my posts but it has also allowed me to be myself and just waffle!  It’s what I’m good at.  (Don’t worry, I’m aiming for around 500 words per post so hopefully you won’t get stuck here for too long 😉)

And the words for today are….
Publication
Pneumonia
Poor
Power

I think that, as many bloggers are already published writers or at least aiming to be, (myself NOT included lol) publication is something that comes up a lot as in how to get published, whether to self publish etc.

Personally, although I love to write, I don't have any ambitions to be a published writer.  We hear about the great success stories, JK Rowling springs immediately to mind, struggling to make ends meet, making one coffee last forever as she wrote Harry Potter in a coffee shop and then of course going on to make a fortune.  But for every JK Rowling there must be hundreds of struggling writers who remain poor.

I do love to read though and to debate about books I've read.  There can be great power in the written word.  It can also be a lot of drivel! And we all have different tastes.

I wouldn't give 50 shades of anything shelf space in my house yet a couple of people thought it was suitable to write about it as their favourite book when interviewing for a position working with children.  Young children!

It takes all sorts.

As for pneumonia, fortunately I've never experienced it personally.  It was, however, a contributing factor in my Mum's death.  She had suffered with Alzheimer's for many years and was the shell of the person I knew and loved.  Watching her deteriorate in the nursing home, losing her wits and her dignity was very hard.  But then when she was admitted to hospital with an infection that developed into pneumonia we had to make the decision on whether to treat it or not.

We decided not.  The hospital were able to keep her comfortable and she was transferred into their hospice unit.  Her death a week later was very peaceful.

Of course you don't stop missing them, especially now that I've become a grandmother.  She was a great Nanny to my kids and a wonderful example for me to follow.

Shame that one of my p words didn't come up as proud!

Are you a budding author or just a scribbler like me?

  2. I do have a novel in progress. On its third draft and work-shopping it with a writers group. Not sure if it will ever get published but it feels good to know I have written it.
Yes, we keep missing them...forever and ever...but our words can keep their memories alive.
