Friday's Fave Five - 19/1/18

Well it's Friday again so it's time to consider our blessings of the week.  Join in here at Susanne's site.

1.  Feeling almost back to normal.  I still haven't shifted the cough but I'm definitely beating the bug.  Thank for all the good wishes last week.

2.  Getting out for walks.  It's been cold this week but mainly dry so I've managed to get out each day.

3.  A visit to the hairdressers.  Definitely a good way of lifting you up when not feeling great.

4.  Trying out a new recipe.  As part of my 18 in 18 (18 things to do in 2018) I'm hoping to try out a new recipe each week.  I didn't do much of the cooking last week but I did cook a new recipe today - Braised pork with soy sauce and cinnamon.  I even managed to take a picture.  (Another aim for 18 in 18 is to take more pictures!)
It's made with pork, mushrooms, spring onions, garlic, ginger, dark soy sauce and cinnamon.  My DIL and hubbie enjoyed it but I felt it might be better with light soy sauce.  I served it with rice and mange tout.
5.  A visit from our eldest son, DIL and greyhounds.  They were here last weekend so it was good to catch up.  Our DIL has quite a growing "bump" and is definitly glowing now she's got past the morning sickness phase of pregnancy.

So lots to be thankful for there plus I also got a few bits in a sale today.  One of the department stores in one of our nearby shopping centres is closing down.  I picked up some towels, a handbag and some wool.

Have a good weekend all.

  1. Glad you're feeling better! A visit to the hairdresser's almost always boosts my spirits. I got a couple of new gadgets for Christmas and have made a couple of new recipes, but need to explore some more. I probably should set a goal like that for motivation. We had a pork dish earlier this week that was very similar minus the cinnamon. I am wondering now how it would taste with cinnamon. I need to get back into walking. I hate to take the time because I don't get to everything I'd like to as it is, but I know it is a good and wise investment of time. So glad you got to visit with your son and daughter-in-law!

  2. I'm happy to hear you are feeling better! I am too praise be to God. I always get a boost too at my hairdresser....especially when she massages my head while shampooing!

i make a vegan dish that is very similar to the one in your photo and mine calls for the light soy sauce.....sometimes i use the ginger sauce,,,,,,its wonderful!

i love walking....but lately it's only been on the treadmill.

Love, your idea of 18 new things in 2018!!

  3. I really need to get out walking more. I know it would be good for me, but I always find an excuse not to go...

That dish looks delicious. I especially like the idea of cinnamon in it. Love the use of "mangetout" - that term always sounds so much more exotic than our boring old pea pods on this side of the pond. :-)

  6. A trip to the hair salon is definitely a pick me up! Love your 18 in 18 goals. That recipe sounds good. It's fun to experiment and try new recipes. Sometimes they work sometimes not but it shakes up the routine in our cooking a bit. Have fun with your new tries this year. Yay for the visit. That is always so good. Hope you are feeling great this week.
