Don't you dare put me down until you've finished. That was the message I got from this book and it was apt (and yes a bit contrived on my part) because I started this early in the morning and being Saturday and with no plans I was able to just plough on through to the end. It was definitely compelling. It doesn't matter too much if you haven't read The Tattooist (although I have) but it's probably best to read them in order.
This was one of my Christmas presents which I was very happy to receive.
I have looked into this book as I JUST finished the Tattooist and loved it (i love that time period anyways and this was based on a real person so i was particularly moved). Well, apparently the author took MANY liberties with Cilka's story and it is NOT all based on factual evidence like Lale's story is. I'm probably going to pass on it. I just started the testaments, the sequel to Handmaid's Tale. It's excellent!! i read handmaid's tale before it became a series as our oldest daughter had to read it at Gordon College.
ReplyDeleteYes it's true that it's not as factually based as in the Tattooist but it definitely gave me an insight into what life in the Gulags was like. I knew it must have been harsh but I didn't realise how awful it was. I've read the Handmaid's Tale and will probably read the Testaments at some point. Although I've committed to reading some on my TBR pile this year.
