#JusJoJan/Wednesday Hodgepodge - 6/1/21

From this Side of the Pond

One size fits all today - taking part in the Wednesday Hodgepodge, kindly hosted by Joyce at From this Side of the Pond

and using it as my Just Jot it January post as hosted by Linda here

1. What advice would you give yourself as we begin this new year?

Try not to stress too much about the pandemic, take each day at a time and ditch the guilt.

2. If you could throw a themed party for yourself what would the theme be?

I have absolutely no idea, especially as I hate being the centre of attention.  That brought to mind an idea that everyone should be masked then no-one would recognise me but wait, we're all wearing masks at the moment anyway!

3. Tell us where you were and something about what life was like when you were 20- 21.

Still living at home (in London's East End) but engaged to be married.  That wedding never actually happened thankfully!

4. What's on the menu at your house this week?

Well we've got 3 days of Hello Fresh meals so haven't had to think too hard about the menu.  Plenty of food in my new fridge and freezer so the other days will take care of themselves - especially as hubby does most of the cooking here.

5. What should you do more of this year? Less of?

More of? Staying in touch with family and friends.  When we had our first lockdown in 2020 I made a point of phoning family and close friends so that I spoke to someone most days.  As time went on I got really lazy at that.

Less of?  Eating chocolate.  Again we started off well by trying to make sure we got out for a walk each day during lockdown and if we did the reward was chocolate.  Now I'm just eating chocolate anyway.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

These questions are good reminders right now as we've just started our 3rd national lockdown and are having to "Stay at home!"  Of course this will be tougher as the weather is not so good for getting out for walks and we know that this will last at least until mid February.

In keeping with one of my intentions for the year and being positive, at least two vaccines are now being rolled out. And I keep getting lovely photos of these little ones to brighten my day:

How can I not keep smiling?

  1. What adorable babies! I'm sure they do keep you smiling!!

  2. Those babies sure are cute!! Our covid numbers are horrible in the US right now. Our governor (Alabama) doesn't want to shut down again - her phrase has been “I said from the beginning you cannot have a life without a livelihood." We did shut down back at the beginning of the pandemic but everything is open now. We have a mask mandate but so many people don't wear them or they wear them under their nose. We are supposed to social distance still but our grocery stores can become really crowded (one example) and I don't feel like all people are giving a six foot distance. I'm so ready to get the vaccination!

    1. We're going nowhere except our daughter's. Fortunately getting shopping delivery every week. Yes I'm ready for the vaccine too.

  3. OH MY,those babies are so sweet. They make me smile too.
I see there is more to the story in question number 2.
My sister was engaged to be married, and just a few weeks before the wedding she called it off. She is now happily married going on 20 years.

  4. The babies are darling. How nice to have something so sweet to brighten this dreary time. If this pandemic ever ends and we can travel and I get to England (was in my plans prior to the lockdowns) we will definitely meet in person for tea : )

  5. Well, those adorable photos made me smile!! So cute!! Oh, I sure hope you and Joyce get to meet in person! Please make sure it is well documented by lots of photos!!

  6. Those sweet faces would make me smile every day too.
Oh, I agree on the less chocolate. I really need to stop eating all the chocolate!
I'd love to hear the story of #3. Obviously, you chose the best of the bunch when you married your hubby.
    Have a happy healthy week.

    1. Yes I had a lucky escape and am so glad I did. We'll celebrate 37 years in June.

  7. Those baby pictures have me smiling, too. I had to laugh about taking walks and eating chocolate - and now just eating chocolate! That is so where I've been this past month. It must stop.

  8. Oh what a little sweetheart! So cute. I'm smiling, too. Enjoyed reading through your answers. I'm a little late in getting around this week! Happy New Year to you and yours.
