Wednesday Hodgepodge 4/1/17

Wednesday's Hodgepodge is brought to us courtesy of Joyce at
Pop over there to see other posts and if you want to join in add the link to your Hodgepodge blog post to the Linky List at the end of Joyce's post and don’t forget to visit at least your neighbours on the list.
1. Share one favorite moment/memory from your Christmas holiday.
When the dinner was finally cooked and served and I could sit down and start to relax.
2. What was the best thing you ate over the holidays? Was it homemade or store bought? If it was homemade did you make it?
Hard to choose just one thing.  We were at a family gathering on Boxing Day with lots of nice food, not just left over turkey.  But Hubby’s home made Turkey soup was delicious and the sausage rolls that I made seemed to go down well.
3. What was one of the most beautiful things you saw over the holidays?
I just enjoyed watching our kids interact with one another.

4. What does fresh start mean to you?
Wiping the slate clean and starting again.

5. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very positive and 1 being not so great) how would you rate 2016 in terms of personal achievement and well being? Explain.
7 I’m still finding my way after leaving my job but 2016 was better than 2015 and I hope that 2017 will be even better.
6. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen or, if you're like me, to find out what in the world the word or phrase even means or the context in which it's used. There were quite a few on this year's list I'd never heard before.

Here's the 2017 list of banished words-

You, Sir-focus-Bete Noire-Town Hall Meeting-Post Truth-guesstimate-831-historic-manicured-echo chamber-on fleek-bigly-ghost-Dadbod-listicle-get your dander up-selfie drone-frankenfruit-disruption
Which word on the list would you most like to see banished in 2017? What word or phrase would you add to the list?
Most of those should be banished although I think disruption can be reprieved.  I’d like to add Brexit to the list.
7. Large or small, light or deep, share with us one goal you have for the new year.
To be more productive with my time.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Following on from #7 I also want to feel less guilty when using time for my own pleasure as in reading, blogging etc.

Happy New Year!

  1. I think the best resolution is to feel less guilty. Why do we beat ourselves up so badly because we spend time doing things we like to do??? Happy New Year Wendy!

  3. Ha, Wendy, I love that you picked Brexit. ;-) My boys always ask me what it means when we hear it on the news.

I always enjoy visiting your blog. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
    Happy 2017!

  4. That takes some time not to feel guilty when you do only things for your own. I had the same feeling when I stopped working ! But I worked on myself (lol) and now I am not feeling guilty anymore at all ! After all I have worked all my life and have done my share ! You will get used to with the time !! I like the word Brexit banned ! I wonder if it ever happens ! Or it will last so long that all oldies who were for the Brexit are peacefully in their graves.

  5. Guilt is a difficult one to get rid off. It seems are generation not only have elderly parents to care for but our children and grandchildren as well. No wonder we crave our own space.

    1. Well we don't have parents to worry about now but we do have a grandchild on the way so this is a worrying time. Working on the guilt.

  7. I love this comment "I also want to feel less guilty when using time for my own pleasure as in reading, blogging etc." -- I, too, struggle with guilt. My husband nor I sit still well but I do love a good book and I love to blog but I think he thinks I'm being lazy :-)

    1. We have to have some time of our own. I'm gradually feeling less guilty.

  8. I totally agree with the word "bigly." Any Trump word, in my opinion, should be banned. And to think - we have four more years of his vocabulary contributions to look forward to... UGH!

    Have a good one!

  9. One habit that might help you feel less guilty about relaxing and spending an hour doing something that you enjoy is to try to extend the same grace to yourself that you would to anyone else. I think we often have higher expectations of ourselves than others. If a friend told you "I spent a lovely lazy hour this morning in my cozy bed reading and blogging" your first thought would probably be "good for them". Self care is under-rated, but so essential in my oppinion. Xx
