In an effort to get blogging on a regular basis it
seems I need a challenge. I've opted to try and complete this one as it's
only supposed to take 5 minutes each day. Of course it takes a bit longer
than that to get the post presented how I want it but the content was done with
a timer.

Today’s prompt is Belong and here's my 5 minutes' worth:

Today’s prompt is Belong and here's my 5 minutes' worth:
I think we all want to belong. Surely none of us want to be outsiders, on
our own. I have been lucky enough to
marry into an amazing family and I definitely feel like I belong. Of course there are times when in-law jokes
will be made but they are just jokes.
Hopefully I’ve made my DILs feel as welcome in our
family – I think they do.
We’re a bit of a tribe and roots have been traced back
to Germany – Hubby and I have even visited some distant cousins and they have
come here.
What we all (or at least some of us) seem to forget sometimes
is that we’re all part of the same human race.
We may look very different from one another now and have different
opinions and very different lifestyles, but underneath our outer layers we’re
all the same and all go back to the same roots.
We all belong together we just have to work out how.
Well I didn't set the timer for this one and I started it last night and got interrupted - I was babysitting Rory and he decided he needed his nappy changing and some milk! I love my Grandkids in case you hadn't noticed. Hopefully they will all grow up with a sense of belonging too.
I was not thinking of "belong" in the same way, yet you have written my words. I do hope I've welcomed my dil's into my family and that they feel they belong, and I also hope my grands grow up with the feeling of belonging. What a tiny shift in focus can do on ones thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Your FMF 31-day neighbor #5. Who has not written on today's yet because I try to get my commenting done BEFORE chaos strikes in the house. :)
YES! - "underneath our outer layers we’re all the same." Too bad that message isn't sticking in culture today.
ReplyDeleteYour family does sound like a great place to belong - maybe because y'all are so intentional about getting together?
I hear ya about the grand kids. I want them to also know that they belong. That sense of belonging is so precious and needed for good mental health.
If only everyone would understand that we are all humans belonging to this earth together and able to get along... if only!! Good post, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteA good point. We all need to remember we are more alike than we are different.
