11th October - 31 days - Door

http://fiveminutefriday.com/2018/08/30/31-days-five-minute-free-writing-prompts-2018/

In an effort to get blogging on a regular basis it seems I need a challenge. I've opted to try and complete this one as it's only supposed to take 5 minutes each day. Of course it takes a bit longer than that to get the post presented how I want it but the content was done with a timer.

Today’s prompt is Door and here's my 5 minutes' worth:

I like to think my door is always open. At least that’s what I say to family and friends. If you’re passing feel free to drop in. You will have to take me as you find me but I’ll always be ready to put the kettle on although my fridge might not be fully stocked. Hopefully there will be something I can offer you to eat.

Of course my door isn’t kept open because where I live that would be giving an open invitation to burglars. Unfortunately we don’t live in an area where doors can be left unlocked. I don’t even leave my back doors open if I’m not downstairs – there are lots of cats around and also foxes who might be inquisitive enough to cross the threshold.

But I do like to think that I would always make an unexpected visitor welcome. Although I was once caught out when friends arrived the day before I was expecting them for lunch. And as 3 of them thought lunch was on Thursday I had to concede that I was the one with the day wrong! That was a bit embarrassing but we enjoyed a nice lunch out at a local pizza restaurant.

How are about you? Is your door always open or would you hide behind the curtains and pretend to be out?

  1. My door is also always open at least for friends, wouldn't let in Jehova witnesses ! I show people around where everything is (if they stay overnight) and then : help yourself that's the easiest way for everybody.

  2. Yes my for is always open too. The advantage of people dropping in rather than a scheduled visit is that you don't have to do anything to get ready. And we always have coffee, tea, dark chocolate, pistachios, hard cheese, and crackers in the house, so we're set. Stop in! :-)

  3. We have neighbors who just drop in here in our community and we love it. Our door is open and some just knock and walk in. In our old neighborhood, we knew our neighbors but rarely saw them. Here, we wave, stop and talk, or just drop by. Our door is always open!!
